A magnetic mount is the one you actually use, because docking takes one hand and no aiming. It needs something ferrous to grip: either a MagSafe-compatible case with a magnet ring built in, or a thin metal plate stuck to the case. Stronger magnets hold better on rough roads, and none of them harm a modern phone.
